WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN BHUTAN

Bhutan is a clean, safe and peaceful country that is slowly adjusting to a more modern way of life. The land consists mostly of steep and high mountains crisscrossed by a network of rivers which form deep valleys. It’s also pretty high up!
The Bhutanese are, by nature, physically strong and fiercely independent with an open and ready sense of humour. Hospitality is an in-built social value in Bhutan. People wear colourful dresses. The men wear a Gho, a long robe tied around the waist by a slim fabric belt, or Kera.

UNIQUE CUISINE

The food in Bhutan will both impress and delight you with its delicious and unique variety of ingredients and spices.
The most famous Bhutanese food is ema datshi, which is chilies and cheese. Locals eat ema datshi likely for just about every meal when you’re in Bhutan. The chilies, which can be either fresh green chilies or dry red chilies, are sliced lengthwise, and cooked with datshi, which is local Bhutanese cheese, and plenty of butter for good measure. Although the basic ingredients remain the same, the more you eat ema datshi, the more you’ll realize that no two ema datshi’s are the same: every cook has their own version.
Other amazing dishes to try are Kewa datshi (similar to our scalloped potatoes), Shamu datshi (Himalayan mushroom and cheese stew) served with rice, Phaksha paa (slices of pork stir fried with whole red dry chilies and sometimes mountain vegetables are added) served with rice and Juma (Bhutanese sausage) made with minced meat, rice and light spices all filled into an intestines wrapper.
