MICHELLE PETERS

Michelle grew up by the majestic St. Lawrence River in Brockville, Ontario. and continues to live there by the water.  As a child, she always looked forward to summers spent boating on the river and the annual visits to her extended families in L’Ardoise, Nova Scotia and Bay Bulls, Newfoundland. Hence, the name Watergirl Quilt Co.

Michelle was inspired to learn to quilt by her Nanny Williams who made crazy quilts embellished with herringbone stitching. Those quilts always were heavy as they were made of old clothing and whatever fabrics could be found around the home for repurposing. When Michelle was 18 years old, she signed up for a 3 month night course to learn how to quilt at St. Lawrence College.

After 24 years of being an elementary school teacher both in Canada and Japan, Michelle was compelled to follow her passion for quilting and to create her own family legacy. She started Watergirl Quilt Co. and now shares her passion for teaching by putting a focus on education in her business. She is proud to be a member of the Ottawa Modern Quilt Guild and the Thousand Islands Quilters' Guild.

Michelle also loves to do ballroom dancing with her hubby, Mr. Watergirl. Her other love is travelling so of course, the Watergirl has to host a quilting cruise! Michelle is excited to return to Japan again, with all of you.

Whether you quilt to feel joy, to heal from sadness, or to express your love for family and friends, Watergirl Quilt Co. is honoured to be part of your creative journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

Before you book with us or depart on your Best of Japan Celebrity Cruise, you may have some questions about what to expect. Below are questions and answers relating to the most important topics to our guests to give you peace of mind and assurance before you set sail on your cruise.

Who is this Cruise for?

This cruise is appropriate for any level of quilter/sewer or who wants to learn how to hand sew: specifically Japanese sewing techniques. It’s also for anyone wants to develop their mind-full creative side / outlets for their mental well-being/journey. If this doesn’t resonate, you are welcome to join us and come for the amazing culture, food and sights of Japan with a group of fun people.

Can you help me to secure a hotel room in Tokyo prior to the sailing and/or after the cruise ends?

Yes, Gravitate Travel would be happy to help you with this, please be sure to plan well in advance as Japan is very busy during this time of year.

Are there direct non-stop flights from major Canadian cities to Tokyo?

Yes, we can help look at non-stop flight schedules from most Canadian cities. Tokyo has two major airports, Narita (further from the city) and Haneda (closer to the city). Flights will open up 360 days prior, so please feel free to reach out and we can assist you with your flights when you’re ready.

Does Celebrity Cruises have an App for my phone for me to keep track of my sailing/reservation details?

Yes, the cruise line has a fantastic App that can be downloaded for Apple and Android devices. The app looks like this

Celebrity Cruises App

Are there any mobility concerns with this cruise?

Yes, this is a cruise for active people with no to little mobility issues. There will be allot of  excursions that involve walking and tenders boats may be used in some ports on this cruise. Guests must be able to ascend and descend stairs stairs.

What information is required to secure a cabin?

$500 CAD non-refundable deposit per person, a legible copy of your passport, credit card(s), booking intention form above completed with all information we require (billing address, dietary restrictions etc.)

What time is supper/dinner each night?

With Celebrity Select Dining Early, Late, you’ll have a designated time each evening for dinner, starting as early as 6pm or as late as 8:30pm. With Celebrity Select Dining Early, Late, you’ll be seated with the same people and get the same waitstaff each night.

Celebrity Select Dining Anytime, on the other hand, is ideal for travelers who want a little more flexibility in their evening schedules. You may want to stay at the pool for longer, lounge at the adults-only* Solarium, or unwind in your stateroom after a full day in port before going out for dinner. With Celebrity Select Dining Anytime, you can choose your dining time anytime between 6pm and 9:30pm.

Note: only a certain number of guests can choose Celebrity Select Dining Anytime per sailing. Typically, Anytime is available on a first-come, first-served basis, particularly for passengers who book their cruise early.

What is the dress code for dinner on Celebrity Cruises?

We’ve left behind formal wear for a more modern take on dressing up. No need to pack your suit and tie or ball gown. However, if you truly want to dress to the nines, we love seeing creative, stylish outfits onboard.

In general, the dinner dress code on your Celebrity cruise is Evening Chic. When you’re planning what to wear on your cruise, pack what you’d wear back home to a nice dinner or special occasion.

Each evening, you’ll receive a bulletin with the next day’s activities, exciting facts about the destinations you’re visiting, and the dress code for the day. If you have any doubts about your outfit, take a look in your cruise bulletin to make sure you’re dressed appropriately.

Evening Chic for ladies ranges from a cocktail dress with heels to a nice blouse with elegant jeans and wedges. Pair a skirt and blazer with strappy shoes. Express yourself. Wear whatever feels elegant and elevated to you.

For men, a dress shirt with pants or designer jeans is a go-to for evening chic. Button-down shirts are also perfect men’s attire for dining during your cruise. A sports coat or blazer is optional.

Smart Casual

When packing what to wear to grab a drink at Martini Bar, see a show at the Theatre, or dine in a specialty restaurant, Smart Casual is the way to go.

For women, this could mean a casual top paired with pants, a skirt, or nice jeans. For men, we recommend pants or nice jeans with a casual top (not a t-shirt).

Style Don’ts

T-shirts, swimsuits, robes, bare feet, tank tops, baseball caps, and pool wear are not allowed in the main restaurant or specialty restaurants. Leave your flip flops and shorts in your stateroom.

Do we need to make reservations for lunch/dinner on the ship?

If you choose a dinner dining time (early or late) you do not, you show up at the time you selected. If you select a specific time to dine at a specialty restaurant you show up at that designated time to dine. Lunch is at your leisure. Anytime dining, you show up when you’re ready at one of the included dining rooms and if there is no space at that time, they will advise you to wait a little or seat you immediately, it all depends on how busy they are.

What is a Tender Port?

In most ports of call, your ship will dock alongside a jetty and you’ll walk down the gangway onto dry land. But not all ports in the world are able to accommodate every cruise ship. Sometimes, a ship is too long for the dock, or may have a draft that’s too deep for the harbor.

Ports may be subject to very high and very low tides, which doesn’t work for cruise ships. There may be precious coral reefs that can’t be crossed. Or navigation may simply be too tricky; you have to remember that a cruise ship can take you pretty well anywhere in the world, which includes some very small and out-of-the-way spots.

When it’s not possible to dock, a cruise ship will drop anchor in a suitably sheltered spot and lower its lifeboats. There’s no cause for alarm when you see this happening; the lifeboats on most ships double up as tenders, which means they are used to ferry passengers to and from the nearest dock.

Does this ship offer room service?

24-hour room service is available any time of the day or night - simply order from the room service menu located in your stateroom (Room service fee of $9.95* applies). A 20% gratuity is additional and will automatically be added to your check.

Continental breakfast room service is complimentary. Available from 6am – 11am each day of the cruise except disembarkation day.

*Room service fee is subject to change without notice. 24-hour room service is complimentary for guests of The Retreat and Zenith Captain Club members.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. We can also accept Interact Email Money transfer only after the initial deposit is made via credit card. When making future payments via Interact payments must be made no less that 5 business days before payment is due to the cruise line.

Does the ship have a spa?

The Spa on a Celebrity Cruises ship is a serene haven. Your holistic journey begins the minute you enter; you’ll sense the restfulness as you inhale in a gentle infusion of soothing aromatherapy oils. Come here to treat yourself; to ease into your vacation with blissfully indulgent treatments and therapies that will leave you feeling completely renewed. Spa aficionados will be instantly at home in this heavenly environment. But it’s not unusual to discover the spa for the first time on a cruise. After all, we don’t all have time for spa treatments in our busy lives back home.

What are the entry requirements to Japan and South Korea?

As of 10MAY, 2024 the entry requirements for Canadians to enter Japan is as follows: Canadian passport Holders do not require a Visa to enter Japan for Tourism purposes less than 90 days. It is recommended that visitors to Japan complete a Visit Japan Web application.

As of 10MAY, 2024 the entry requirements for Canadians to enter South Korea is as follows: Canadian passport Holders do not require a Visa to entry South Korea for Tourism purposes less than 90 days.

NOTE – It is the sole responsibility of each guest to ensure they have the required document to enter/sail and visit the countries on the itinerary. Gravitate Travel will not be held responsible for those guests that are denied boarding with their airline/ship due to lack of correct documentation.

Can Gravitate Travel quote me on travel insurance to protect my cruise?

Yes, we certainly can. We work with Manulife Travel Insurance and can only quote travel insurance for those that reside in Ontario. Others Canadian residents outside of Ontario we can have one of our team across Canada quote you based on your province of residence as we are only licensed to sell travel insurance in Ontario.

I have a lot more questions about the ship, dining, excursions, shopping onboard and other onboard services, where can I find more info?

. Please refer to the FAQ’s on the Celebrity Cruises website or ask your travel professional at Gravitate.

Can I select my cabin at the time of booking?

This is based on availability. If the cabin type you selected is available for us to select at the time of booking, then yes, your travel manager can advise the deck and locations for us to select. If you select a cabin and there is not a cabin for us to select at the time of booking, then this is called a “Guarantee”. A Guarantee Cabin means that you are booking an unassigned cabin within a certain category of cabin. Celebrity “guarantees” to provide with a cabin in that category or higher, nothing less. As an example, let’s say you book an Inside cabin, category Z – the cruise line will assign you a cabin in an Inside category Z or higher. For those that prefer to know in advance their cabin location and deck, we strongly suggest you book in advance to maximize your choice of cabin location.

What is the initial deposit to secure my cabin?

A CAD $500 non-refundable deposit per person is required to secure your cabin.

When is the final payment required?

The final payment for the  cruise is due on January 9th, 2026.

Is there a payment plan or can I make multiple payments for this trip?

Once you have made your initial non-refundable deposit, you may continue to make payments in any increment via your travel professional at Gravitate Travel as long as you have paid for the cruise in full no later than January 9th 2026. The benefit of booking way in advance is that you can add payments at your leisure or on a scheduled basis.
