Discover Breathtaking Bhutan

Join Scott Waldron on his journey to Bhutan - exploring its pristine landscapes and rich cultural tapestry.

Gravitate’s Scott Waldron was recently invited to embark on the trip of a lifetime – to the remote nation of Bhutan with the help of our partner, MyBhutan!

Together, they helped him craft an itinerary that suited his interests and travel style.

“They took the time at the beginning of the planning stages to get to know me and my preferences,” Scott says. “They asked me my fitness level. And arranged for my driver and guide, which you must have when travelling to Bhutan.”.

And on the top of his to-do list? The surreal Paro Taktsang or Tiger’s Nest.

The Kingdom of Bhutan is a tiny landlocked country nestled in the Eastern Himalayas.

Dubbed the “Land of the Thunder Dragon”, Bhutan is renowned for its pristine natural beauty, vibrant culture, and commitment to Gross National Happiness. What sets Bhutan apart is its steadfast preservation of tradition in the face of modernity. Visitors to Bhutan are greeted with a landscape adorned with ancient monasteries clinging to rugged cliffs, fluttering prayer flags, and verdant valleys dotted with rice paddies.

One of the highlights of a journey to Bhutan is the opportunity to embark on the challenging yet rewarding trek to the Taktsang Palphug Monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest. Perched precariously on a cliffside, this sacred site is not only a marvel of architectural ingenuity but also a symbol of Bhutan’s deeply rooted spiritual heritage. As you traverse the mountain trails, shrouded in mist, and surrounded by panoramic vistas, each step brings you closer to a profound sense of tranquility and enlightenment.

Whether it’s witnessing the vibrant masked dances of the Tshechu festival or partaking in a traditional archery competition, visitors are invited to immerse themselves in a living heritage that transcends time.

At the heart of Bhutanese society lies the concept of Gross National Happiness (GNH), a holistic approach to development that prioritizes the well-being and happiness of its citizens over material wealth. Rooted in Buddhist principles, GNH seeks to cultivate a harmonious balance between economic growth, environmental sustainability, and spiritual fulfillment. This unique philosophy has garnered international acclaim, positioning Bhutan as a beacon of sustainable development and social progress in a rapidly changing world.

Despite the encroachment of modernity, Bhutan remains steadfast in its commitment to preserving its cultural heritage and natural environment. Traditional architecture, characterized by intricately adorned dzongs (fortresses) and ornate wooden homes, coexists harmoniously with modern infrastructure, creating a landscape that is both timeless and evolving. Beautiful accommodations await you in this stunning country along with service that cannot be matched.
